Only 40% of Texans approve of Greg Abbott’s job performance which is an all time low. I hope we don't miss this chance to have a Democrat elected as governor.
Universal healthcare is also a good example of why government needs to provide a service in the betterment of the entire country versus a private, for profit endeavor. When it is unprofitable to provide services, business will never do so. And this is what health insurance is, a service*. You cannot make a profit insuring people who will make a lot of claims. So insurers take our premiums and then do everything they can to not pay our claims. It is no different from when we got rural electrification. Only government could provide this service because it was unprofitable to run power lines out to rural homesteads.
And the insurance companies understand this. But rather than backing out of the health insurance business, they try to figure out how to get taxpayers to pay their losses while harvesting the profits from the premiums. This is the play currently underway in the Trump Administration as it tries to privatize Medicare with its little experiment into AI pre-screening. Therefore, the logical answer is for government to take over healthcare and let private enterprise figure out another way to make money in the private insurance business.
So, if Democrats are savvy, they can use the real-world experiences of SS and Medicare users after DOGE butchered its workforce as the example of why we need full-on government provided SERVICES rather than just delivering people into the hellscape of corporate piracy.
*Health insurance used to be a whole lot more profitable when medical science was less advanced. Lifespans were shorter and people didn't survive the medical issues, like hypertension and cancer, that are now managed with medical advances and drugs. Rather than admitting their actuarial tables won't work anymore as a result, insurers try to game it as noted above.
Terrific piece, Michelle! You convinced me. I posted it & within seconds Democratic Underground was sending it out in lists of Democratic candidates! WOWZA!!!
"The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations put out an extensive statement on Friday condemning Republican Gov. Greg Abbott for his recent social media post urging Texans to report anyone attempting to impose "Sharia law," or Islamic religious laws, in Texas."
Michelle, I read it. I agree WE should all have good (Great) healthcare BUT is this a better talking point for our State Congress person or the Federal level? My other concern is right now, because my husband worked Civil Service. Our insurance is great. Of course trump could change that like he has with so many other things. But this healthcare needs to be as good as that. Every Democratic Party person running would have to say it and mean it. We would need the Majority also. Including Governor and/or White House.
I figured, but people need to know that healthcare is bad in Texas because the the Governor, too. Again, it’s harder for the Democratic Party to do much if we don’t have the majority.
This may be possible for Texas. But its not possible for New York. The corporate democratic influence is too strong with all our elected officials and there no way they will allow a candidate like that to precede the general from the primary. Unless we significantly reduce the corporate influence we cant do much. There is no governing body like Texas to elect the party chair. Its the governor who appoints them. So we are stuck with corporate.
I completely agree with universal healthcare. I very much want Talarico to be our next Senator but he had two hecklers in Round Rock. One wanted him to speak about Gaza, which I can understand. I haven’t heard his position on this. Then a young man probably college age yelled about him accepting money from billionaires while he was talking about them being a problem. Very passionate young man whose friends were horrified and surprised. He is going to have to talk about this. It feels out of alignment. Yet I know money is also important. Not the topic but still on my mind.
next time ur lunatic uncle calls u a killer: "A 2021 study published in the journal Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law & Society analyzed ideologically motivated extremist killings from 1990 to 2020. The results were clear: Only 42 incidents of politically motivated homicide, or 15.6% of all incidents, involved far-left extremists. In contrast, far-right extremists were responsible for 227 incidents—84.4% of the total."
i add too this: u never hear about the assymentic violence that comes from MAGA and this is direct from GOOPer Chair Tarrant County BoBo French:
"You Need to Act
We have had time to mourn for Charlie. But it's time to act. It's what he would want. Charlie was a man of action. No one worked harder than he did to build the MAGA movement and save our country.'
sure sounds like a call to violence. guess who will decry this over the air and in print? Ans: Nobody i know....total freebie for a lunatic MAGA leader
a perspective" i will leave it to MD to tell us if the bro vote is even meaningful.....but this is a rudimentary explanation why it skews MAGA....it feels about right to me
'This is an open letter to all bros. You're angry. You're disillusioned. And you have every right to be. The question is, what do you do about it? How do you do something that's going to improve your life, your future?
Does the answer lie in a political party? Both Republicans and Democrats certainly want your vote. However, you don't feel that you can look to the Democratic Party for help. They seem to be particularly interested in women, people of color, and immigrants. They haven't spoken to you or done anything for you."
it feels about right meaning i think they succintly argue what the bro's experience is , real or perceived. i think its more perceived because of the usual RW hate machine megaphone
I always look for the cliff notes version or explanations ...this to be one. ps: it doesn't do much good for long lenghty explications of things if ur listener can't grasp it,,,,mr. Talarico....politics best done in shorthand
Candidates , the numbers are coming out....u don't need to wait till Jan.......ACA premiums jump 26%

here's an idea........inform TC voter of the upcoming HC calamity......its a winner .....
i will pitch the idea again...................in TC la Gran Plaza, the largest Hispanic mall in the state, and other places like that............parties...set up a HC booth during open enrollment.....inform ur county about HC choices...........u'd be amazed how much help u get with ACA premiums, alot of people don't know that, say for instance ur tip workers, They qualify but don't know it. Who knows who qualifies for Medicaid? beleive it or not alot of people don't .....................imagine if u are seen helping ur county?

Who would you like to see run if Joaquin doesn’t try a run?
Not sure. Abbott has his $50M war chest from his billionaire friends so it will be a battle for anyone.

I do.... you're the second person to ask me about that this week, I meant to update. I'll try to have it current this evening. Later tonight.
Brilliant. I’m sending this to Kevin Burge’s team. Kevin could beat Beth Van Duyne with this and he is already advocating for it.

This is a talking pulling for the federal level, for congressional candidates.
