Fun fact: Did you know Dallas County is the third-bluest county in Texas, after Travis and Presidio Counties?
Which goes to show how dumb and out of touch both Trump and Texas Republicans are. Because a few months back, didn’t Abbott say he wanted to spend millions in Harris County to flip it back red? Yet, only last month Abbott’s advisor, Dave Carney, spoke about spending his entire war chest on down-ballot House races. Texas Republicans are in trouble, and they are holding this shindig in one of the bluest areas in the state.
Why Dallas?
This had to have been Trump’s idea. He’s really old, and he probably remembers how Dallas elevated Ronald Reagan and the Moral Majority in the early 1980s, helping them secure GOP dominance in the era of synthesized keyboards, neon colors, and cocaine highballs.
Or maybe it was because the John Birch Society’s most active and well-funded chapter came from Dallas in the 1960s and had a huge impact on shaping the landscape for modern fundamental right.
Or perhaps it’s because Trump has said his pastor is Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas, the former home of segregation-era preacher W.A. Criswell.
But all of those are bygone eras. And Dallas is a blue city, in a blue county, with a mostly non-white population. So, is Trump’s little “RNC stunt” going to have any impact on the direction of the ballots in Dallas? Probably not.
Most Texas Republicans aren’t even showing up.
I shit you not. This whole thing is being labeled as so toxic that they only got a handful of Texas Republicans to show up, and most of them are carpetbaggers.

Democrats are holding a huge rally tomorrow night as a counter-action.
The march before the rally starts at 1 pm.

The GOP flying into the third-bluest county in Texas, dragging a busload of D-list carpetbaggers behind them, to throw a party nobody local RSVP’d to, while their own strategist is out here telling anyone who’ll listen that the real fight is down-ballot, not top-of-ticket theater. That’s a party running a con on itself.
Dallas didn’t ask for this. Dallas doesn’t need this. And tomorrow, while Trump’s people are busy posing for cameras in a county that already told them no, Dallas is going to march and rally right back at them, in numbers the RNC couldn’t dream of drawing.
A plague doesn’t get invited. It just shows up, does some damage, and leaves everyone else to clean up the mess. Stay tuned.

It's only through his sheer incompetence that we're not facing a full blown fascist takeover, which is the TX GOP's feverdream, too. The environment has never been riper for Texas Dem's to flip some tables.
