When does the primary start for those two senators? I am eager to see them removed permanently

Zaffarini's next election is Nov. 2026; Hinojosa's next election is Nov. 2028

Zaffirini is 79, I wonder if she will run again. I just emailed her and asked her to show some courage and think about her legacy. judith.zaffirini@senate.texas.gov

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

She’s already filled to run again. Fuck her legacy, it’s all bullshit. She votes like a Republican, anyway.

S Prather's avatar

She's getting torched on Facebook

S Prather's avatar

I just read that she's never missed a floor vote since she was elected in the 80's

Liza Hameline's avatar

Let’s get her a primary challenge!

Fabiola Escalón's avatar

She’s “beloved” in Laredo, her base. But they never really knew what she was up to or that her family donates to Abbott.

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

Really? Because she’s terrible. 😭😭

The House and Senate Democrats need to stay away the rest of the year if necessary. They took this job knowing they would at best be away from home in Austin for 6 months for the regular session. So they have to have some job flexibility already. They should also have anticipated the need to break quorum. So there should be very few excuses for them to give up and come back now. This is the big fight. If this isn't what they are here for then why did they ever run for office.

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

We can’t rely on Senators Zaffirini and Hinojosa, though.

Mirian Spencer Morrison's avatar

If the current special session ends, they'll have to start ALL over again. They will have to bring a new bill to the floor and everything. Start public hearings again, etc. They don't get to start where they left off.

Marta Bizarra's avatar

Sure, but that’s what Gregor Mendacious wants. Doesn’t matter to him if it wastes time and money and is intended to disenfranchise millions. He’d probably try this crap even if there were a different president. Trump just gave him permission.

Thank you, Michelle! I loved it that our Senators stood up & walked except for those two. WTH got into them? I'll be pulling for zero arrests & for special session 2 not to start until next week. If we're lucky we could know a bit more about other states' plans in the meantime.

Thank the gods for Beto & the actions of so many groups who are raising funds and trying to help us. Sharing...

Even though what the GOP is doing is insane, I’m always ready for a fight after reading your articles. Your writing is so powerful and inspiring!

KP Johnson Austin, TX's avatar

Sadly. We can’t rely on the other states to help Texas. It may not happen.

Dr. Fake Smile's avatar

Send the quorum breakers love and money and tell them you want them to stay away👊🏼

Liza Hameline's avatar

Well the good news is: We have a SD 22 candidate!!!

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

Now, that is GREAT news!!

Marc Veloz's avatar

I love your reporting and writing! Much love from Austin <3

Interesting. I’m just getting back from picking up the kids, first I’m hearing of it.

Mubashir Saleem's avatar

Please i beg of you. When you have time. Investigate this. I dont have that much connection to everyone in Texas Dems. I am trying to contact precient chairs i know who are part of Texas Dems this is nuts

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

Looking into now, I’ll let you know.

Mubashir Saleem's avatar

Thank you and i am sorry

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

From what I’m hearing, yes it’s true, but I’m not hearing it from any House members directly yet. If it is true, I wouldn’t be surprised and I don’t think you should be either. That’s why I said, expecting them to stay gone until December isn’t realistic. We’ll find out soon enough.

Mubashir Saleem's avatar

So they are coming back?

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

lol no worries, I’d find out soon anyway

Fabiola Escalón's avatar

Hinojosa is my Senator. He used to be all about the people. He got greedy. Now he’s all about Abbott. What a shame.

Texas House Democrats who left the state to prevent a vote on new congressional maps will return to Texas, feeling they have accomplished their mission of killing the first special session, raising awareness and sparking national backlash about the mid-decade redistricting, multiple sources confirmed to ABC station KTRK and ABC News on Tuesday.

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

Unconfirmed from House members directly. Chris Turner, my rep, is holding a town hall Thursday. Regardless, they were never going to be able to last all year. They successfully were able to convince other blue states to retaliate, that’s the win. I’ll have more tomorrow, I’m about to hit the hay, we’re back on a school schedule.

tim koss's avatar

others before them lasted longer when the stakes were lower

polly anna view MD

Newsom and pritizker came out strong before any Tex Dem had even packed their shaving kit

i assume they quit cause Newsom , Pritzker et al advised they would step up...

the Alamo stood longer than the Texas 13....

pretty shameful if u ask me

Abbott gives Texas to Trump

Newsome fights back on our behalf..thanks jeesuz,

another shameful episode in Texas Democratic spinelessness

tim koss's avatar

i hope its BS...but please explain if true

i heard on CNN and doubled checked

"Texas Dems to return after Abbott ends session that included redistricting: Sources

from ABC

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

I’ll write about tomorrow, but it’s looking like it. No confirmation yet.

tim koss's avatar

I am gonna go have a drink

tim koss's avatar

before i go...remember the biggest crime scene in DC since the Lincoln Assasination is Jan 6

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

If that helps you make it through the fall of America, drink one for me too.

tim koss's avatar

I am hoping to be deported to Ireland..rains alot but the Guiness is good

tim koss's avatar

mark my words..Dems in DC and elsewhere will say 'finally gun control' to which MAGA will skewer them as cowards and capitulators all the while decrying the lawless Dem cities

tim koss's avatar

need a clue: i don't have a candidate for HD 97 nor CD 12....the last 2 were jokes...with the CD-12 candidate raising ...and i spell it out.....fifteen thousand dollars.....against MAGA/R candidate with over $1M.....that's one million dollars +

that is the kind of talent Tarrant County Democratic Party advances.....

we are the problem Texas

the same players are still in charge.....

since Allison Campolo was there then and has returned....(another story)....i lay the blame at her feet

tim koss's avatar

one threat removed.....so what are the cowards excuses?

from TT: " Texas Supreme Court won’t rule for weeks on GOP requests to expel Democrats who left the state"

BTW the job pays $7200 a year.......so what if ur expelled
