Thanks for suffering through that speech to tell us about it. Even if he was right about the grid, what about the billions of dollars in bailouts to energy and gas companies related to the 2021 storm we will be paying for in our bills for the next 25 years? Or the billions used to subsidize building new gas power plants. He also failed to mention that the only reason energy production has kept up with demand is all the new solar and wind projects that were built.
The French Revolution has been on my mind ever since January 20, 2025. Hadn’t thought about its applicability closer to home. Commentators make a lot of analogies to 1930s Germany, but methinks our rulers are overlooking both the French and American revolutions and they should really ponder how this country is significantly different from countries taken over by authoritarians in the 20th century (and the 21st).
Marta, I think about France a lot lately, too. The most relevant authoritarian takeover to me is Nazi occupied France. The Nazis decapitated the French government, and ran a smash and grab operation stripping the French of their wealth, while the traitorous puppet Vichy government oppressed the people at the direction of a mad, vicious foreign dictator. I also think a lot about Virginia Hall, an American socialite who moved to Paris after she was ditched by her fiance after a hunting accident caused her to lose a leg below the knee. When the Nazis invaded France, she stayed to fight for her adopted home. The OSS in London recruited and trained her to be a spy. She posed as an American journalist until the US entered the war, then she went underground to organize and lead the French Resistance. She was instrumental in defeating the Nazis in France, and was never captured. After the War, she was awarded the Croix de Guerre, and was made a member of the Order of the British Empire. Hall was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the highest US military award a civilian can receive, and she is the only woman to ever have received it. She had courage and brains, she was tough, wily, and a natural leader, and she pulled it all off wearing a wooden artificial leg. She's an inspiration to all American women to fight for the people.
Again, Thank you for educating us on the real issues and what is happening in Texas!!! I'm with HOCTX.ORG and we would love to get you on No Kings line up🙏🙏Which we will be hosting in Austin on October 18th.
All summer I've been reading Steve Anderson on Substack. He is, to all appearances, an ordinary person, a software engineer, who started a Substack called Reclaim the American Republic to discuss his analysis of what is happening in America. He has the kind of mind that can take in a lot of information in a short time and synthesize it to arrive at an insightful big picture analsysis, with bibliography. He did a series in August about Oligarchy, the different elements of state, politician, party (both), and influencer capture by wealthy elites, and how to break their hold. In his piece "We the People 2025: The Fail-Safe in Action", he discusses how there is no other path that is likely to succeed than a grassroots takeover of the Democratic Party. It occurred to me, after reading it twice, that Texas is uniquely situated for this, because instead of captured, entrenched Democrats, as in New York, for example, we just have wind whistling through the empty space of the missing 30 years of Democratic party representation in the vast majority of Texas. Therefore, a grassroots takeover of the Democratic Party of Texas should be possible here, assuming that Texans will be actively looking for alternatives to Republicans.
Abbott preaching “prosperity” from the Baylor Club while kids in Waco go hungry is the Sermon on the Mount flipped upside down. Blessed are the CEOs, for theirs is the state budget. This isn’t leadership, it’s looting dressed up in Scripture. A $2,000 plate dinner while families ration insulin. A “perfect” grid while elders suffocate in the heat. Fully funded schools while teachers buy crayons out of their own paychecks. It isn’t incompetence, it’s sabotage. They starve the agencies that keep Texans alive, then sell the scraps to their donors. The real State of the State is a mother skipping meals so her kids can eat. The rest is chandeliers and lies.

All very excellent points. (And I still think it’s splitting hairs.)
Hay hay, Ho ho the GOP has got to go!
Thanks for the update. I don’t know how you know so much but I am great full you do. 🙏🏼
I still say “ ignorance is bliss”
And “What you don’t know doesn’t hurt you”. 😭
There was a line that I said “from your mouth to God’s ears.” 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Then there's the $3.4 billion 'Abbott tax' that got tacked on Texan's gas bills resulting from price gouging by gas companies during the winter storm.
Eat the rich
Great reporting & debunking, Michelle! Thank you for watching that crap so I didn't have to!
Even though I know what a malevolent creep the Guv is, I was stunned by the gap between what he said & the facts.
Already posted ('cause I've got priorities, wink)
Altho', truthfully, I watched the new episode of South Park first, lol.
