Madam Lone Star Left has her some RECEIPTS!

Pat's avatar

And I’m still furious at the insulting campaign he ran before this one where he never showed up and his pitch for money was nonstop. South Dallas never saw him, we never saw him and if we did, I could recite his campaign speech along with him. Nothing new or to the audience in front of him. But none of that is Planatir.

For a good Texas tribute: glad I don't have a dog in this fight.

Love it! So appropriate, I supported Colin, sent him a nice bundle of cash the last time he ran. I might as well have set it on fire. Nice to know I gave it to a dead blue armadillo. May it rest in peace. Rich S. Octogenarian and Contrarian

I grew up in East Dallas. I still live here. Neither of these candidates' voting record reflects this district. Colin Allred may be the dead blue armadillo but he inspires no faith in me to ever be progressive. Julie seems little different in that regard. I will say that Julie has come to speak with the kids at my high school. Additionally, Julie's office sponsors a youth action committee that gets our young people involved in the political process. Personally, I will support one until I have to support the other and hope and pray a fighting progressive dem emerges one day.

She certainly puts on a good face.

Gregory Pulte's avatar

That’s precisely how I would characterize it. Lol

Hey Gregory. I worked in East Dallas for 20 years. Can I message you about the Youth Action Committee as I am all about GOTV but also understanding the knowledge and habits of youth.

I love this analysis, so I just subscribed today!

You made an interesting observation about Democrats in Texas being more progressive than Dems in Washington (even, apparently, OUR Dems in Washington). I think you're right that living under relentless MAGA/Christian nationalism here has pushed us farther left. I also think that a lot of progressive policies are attractive to those on the right, of which we have an abundance.

"America First," though it's the further American fascist slogan, has come to mean to many of it's adherents (like MTG) "Americans First." And they mean regular Americans. So a slew of progressive policies appeal to them: living wages, universal healthcare, affordable housing, paid sick leave, no congressional stock trading, no big money in politics, and term limits.

If I'm right, Texas Dems stand to get a boost from any "Americans First" Republicans who can bring themselves to ignore the labels. I hope our statewide candidates will follow Talarico's lead and be willing to talk to them.

💯 I have a lot of thoughts about this, why Texas Democrats have seemingly moved further left than our non-Texas counterparts, but you can absolutely see it in our state party platform and the ideological leanings of our candidates.

Im with Veda! I’m so happy that I don’t have a dog in this fight. 😅

It was upsetting that the “female” in this race is the greedy one. Only because ignorant voters love to vote for the female. I was once one. 🙃

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 for this race.

By the way. Chip Roy doesn’t live in his district either. 🤬

Finally shared this to bsky. Thank you SO MUCH for this assessment! They've both been my Rep & I'm glad to see some real analysis.

Allred is a lousy and — IMHO — a lazy campaigner. He has lost the confidence of most of the folks I have spoken with, after his disastrous Senate run. He sure never showed up in my neck of the woods to campaign. I had similar feedback from another Dem club, too. Instead, he sent a surrogate, and later a video. He consequently earned a smaller percentage of votes than Beto did in his Senate race. And I had been a big supporter

Seriously, Julie actually showed up for the Dallas County Democratic Party CD Convention last month. Colin did not. The word was he had a “conflict.” Well, the Democratic Party Senatorial candidate was also there — James Talarico. Colin’s absence was a missed opportunity. That says a lot about who will “show up” for the constituents. I will be voting for Julie as a constituent living in CD-33. After hearing her speeches, recently connecting with her at some local events where she is making the effort to get to know the Hispanic voters in this new district — AND because I really like her campaign staff. Medicare for All is also something she wants to see happen and she stated it loud and clear. I have no issue with her being a multi-millionaire. She is very down to earth. So, there you have it.

I know she puts on a good face, and I’ve heard plenty of nice things about her. But there are a lot of things that will never sit right with me, like earning $4 million while in office and profiting from Palantir. I understand those aren’t deal breakers for you, and that’s okay. Like I said, I respect your opinion. 🫶🏻

Susan's avatar

Well, as KERA reports, the amount she earned from Palantir wasn’t that much — $1,000 to $15,000 and a 3rd party group had managed those investments. She has told voters that as well at events. Her background before becoming a member of Congress was as a lawyer and a small business owner with no requirement to divest from stock holdings. Julie only took office in January 2025 and began divesting of her stocks soon after that. It’s amazing how this issue has taken on a life of its own. She actually believes all members of Congress should divest from all stocks and introduced an amendment to legislation on January 14, 2026. The detailed reporting on this is from a KERA News story on January 29, 2026.

Okay. I respect your opinion.

It’s a difficult situation… as you know, CD-33 is packed with Democrats. Percentage-wise it’s an Hispanic district. Julie explained and showed us that CD-33 is shaped like a butterfly. Approximately 1/3 of the voters on the right wing of “the butterfly” know her from the previous CD-32 and maybe her House District (not sure about that). But 2/3 of voters in the rest of the butterfly do not. This is a super challenge for a candidate. I applaud Julie for wanting to serve this district as best she can under these Trump-requested new maps. I think we are fortunate to have a talented Democratic Party politician who was willing to take this butterfly on and fight for her new constituents — in Washington. 🦋

I'm going to drop this question here because I don't do "real" social media, just Substack comments. But, I felt the need to say this. I have been puzzled by the passive-aggressive letter from Crockett's district and Freddie Haynes asking Kendall Scudder to step down because of what I saw as vague allegations. There were no concrete examples of his alleged transgressions, merely some generalities. And the people who signed this letter did not put forth an alternative candidate. You would think that if they wanted to get him out for real, they would get serious about it and make a move.

Then, there is an article in the Dallas Morning News today where Crockett is teasing a big announcement soon. Based on the vibes I picked up in that article, I wonder whether her announcement is her mounting a challenge to Kendall for the Chairmanship. I can see some upsides for her personally in doing so, even if she doesn't win.

Kendall spoke at our pre-convention meeting in CD-24 in support of his candidacy. He offered to take questions, but they hustled him off. So, I have questions.

Maybe someone knows something I don't. Is there substance to the allegations against Scudder or is it sour grapes? I have also been puzzled by the fact I haven't heard any more about this. What's the scuttlebutt on Crockett's big announcement?

Does anyone have any insight here? Or am I just being paranoid?

Michelle H. Davis's avatar

I too have a lot of questions about that, and seeing that Freddie Haynes is going to be my congressperson, I’ve been frustrated with his lack of accessibility. But I’m still very much behind him.

That being said, the lies and misinformation that happened during the primary persist and people who signed that letter participated in that cyber bullying campaign against me, one of the signers even threatened to doxx me. So I do wonder if he’s in that misinformation bubble. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Time will tell.

Thanks, Michelle. That helps.

Great analysis. I hate that redistricting put me in 33 where I may no longer have a Democratic congressperson, but I’m also glad I don’t have to choose between Johnson and Allred for the reasons you state. I have no faith that either of them will take tough stands for us.
