Early Voting Starts Today And Shawn Thierry Gives Us Unhinged 2AM Rant
Primary elections are when it's time to vote out shit-Dems. Make sure you get to the polls.
On the first day of early voting in what has been the most contemptuous Democratic primary election Texas has seen in decades, Representative Shawn Thierry (D-Houston) woke up in the wee hours of the morning and chose violence.
Before we get into Thierry’s now-deleted post, we must discuss the backstory and how we got to this point.
During the legislative session, Thierry sided with Republicans on two crucial issues.
She voted to ban gender-affirming care for minors.
She voted for the book-burning bill.
In the case of the anti-LGBTQ legislation, she stood before all of her peers and gave a boo-hoo speech, where she sobbed her way through right-wing talking points and conspiracy theories. If you haven’t seen her little bit of theater, here it is:
Hate and intolerance is not a Democratic value.
Thierry betrayed her constituents, the Democratic Party, and any sense of Democratic values.
Because of this, Thierry drew two primary challengers in her safe Democratic seat. One is Lauren Simmons, to whom I’ve already given my endorsement.
After Thierry’s crying for bigotry stunt back in May, right-wing donors dumped large piles of cash into her campaign. Check it out. All of the names underlined in red are Republican donors and PACs.
Make no mistake; if Thierry wins re-election, she will switch parties.
That’s why all of the Democratic endorsements, aside from my own, have been pouring into Lauren Simmons’ campaign.
During the “campaign interview” by Houston Chronicle’s editorial board, Shawn Thierry took that opportunity to make a homophobic remark.
Who knows what she was thinking? Like the newspaper isn’t going to tell that story.
From the Houston Chronicle:
“After a combative and petty performance that was beyond the debating showmanship we typically see, Thierry again interrupted Simmons during what was supposed to be her closing statement,” the endorsement read. “Simmons, 36, was noting that she had earned the support of three of Thierry’s colleagues.”
“The gay ones,” Thierry interjected.
“The gay ones.”
So, what led to Shawn Thierry’s 2 AM freak out this morning? (And what did she say?)
It started with Representative Gene Wu (D-Houston) endorsing Lauren Simmons and expressing his disgust with Thierry’s bigotry.
Wu was absolutely, 100% correct. Thierry’s behavior at the Houston Chronicle interview was the embodiment of right-wing bigotry and hate.
This social media post is what led to Thierry’s 2 AM spaz. Here is is:
The biggest takeaway from this is the thought that Representative Wu was her friend and was upset her friend was calling her a bigot, even though she has repeatedly acted out her bigotry. She also insinuated that the Houston Chronicle was dishonest in what they reported, a claim she never made until this post.
There are specific issues that, as a white woman, I am not qualified to talk about. So, here is what some of my friends had to say.
Thierry’s post began to blow up. Many were speaking on how she was unhinged and unbelievable. Perhaps all of the negative attention caused her to delete her post. But as we all know, the internet is forever.
Get out there and vote!
If you’re one of “the gay ones” or an ally to one of “the gay ones,” get out there and vote in the Democratic primary. Remember, November is when we get the fascist out of office, but March is when we replace the wanna-be fascists with true progressives who will uphold the values that we as a society agree to.

February 20, 204: First Day of Early Voting.
February 23, 2024: Last Day to Apply for Ballot by Mail.
March 1, 2024: Last Day of Early Voting.
March 5, 2024: Election Day!
