There is no bottom.

In his recent appearance on the Dana Loesch Show, Governor Greg Abbott discussed what Texas has done for so-called border security.

Governor Abbott made it clear that there are limits to these measures. He asserted that the state would shoot and kill those crossing the border if it wasn’t for the threat of criminal murder charges from the federal government.

Error

Abbott’s remarks, openly contemplating the use of lethal force against refugees at the Texas border, have sparked justifiable outrage. The possibility of state-sanctioned violence against vulnerable individuals seeking asylum is not just deeply disturbing; it reflects a chilling disregard for human life and international law.

To even hint at the use of deadly force as a deterrent against people fleeing violence and poverty is to approach a fascistic ideology, where rules and human life are considered less important than keeping order and control.

Abbott’s words show a dangerous mindset that views refugees not as humans in desperate need of help but as potential targets whose lives are negotiable, recently echoing Donal Trump’s language, “Immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country.”

The Governor’s rhetoric shows a deviation from the values of empathy, compassion, and the rule of law that should guide the actions of any elected official. It is a grim reminder of the moral decay that has infiltrated the highest levels of the Republican Party. The politics of fear and power have consumed Texas Republicans, and they have lost sight of their duty to protect and serve all people with dignity.

Fucking vote.

The escalation of Abbott's rhetoric to such extreme levels is a warning of how much worse things could become if the citizens of Texas do not actively engage in the democratic process.

With 9.5 million non-voting Texans holding the power to shape the future of their state, the stakes could not be higher. If these voices remain silent, there is a real risk of a further shift towards a more authoritarian, fascistic approach to governance. This will further erode the principles of democracy, justice, and human rights.

Republicans have let fear, hatred, and division overshadow the values of compassion, inclusivity, and respect for all life. It is imperative for every eligible voter in Texas to recognize the gravity of this moment and to use their vote as a decisive stand against the tide of fascism. This is not merely a choice between different political parties or policies; it is a choice about the kind of society Texans want to live in and the legacy they wish to leave for future generations.

Thanks again for a very well written article. I sincerely hope that non-voting Texans understand the stakes involved in the coming elections and vote. I echo the sentiments that you have expressed in your last two paras brilliantly, "With 9.5 million non-voting Texans holding the power to shape the future of their state, the stakes could not be higher. If these voices remain silent, there is a real risk of a further shift towards a more authoritarian, fascistic approach to governance. This will further erode the principles of democracy, justice, and human rights.
