Greg Abbott’s War On Muslim Texans Is State-Sanctioned Bigotry
If he can strip rights from Muslims today, he can strip rights from anyone tomorrow.
In 2025, did you ever think that the leader of our government, in a multi-cultural state where 31 million people live, would openly use the power of the state to target Muslims because of who they are?
Who are we kidding? Greg Abbott may possibly be the most corrupt Texan who has ever existed, and this is one more outrageous act of political theater he’s launching on a marginalized community, because it’s election time.
This week, Abbott declared the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a mainstream civil rights organization that helps Muslims fight discrimination, a “foreign terrorist organization.” He slapped the same label on the Muslim Brotherhood and then banned both groups and anyone associated with them from owning land in Texas. He ordered the Department of Public Safety to work with FBI task forces to “investigate” them for vague, made-up crimes, as if praying in a mosque or filing a civil rights complaint suddenly makes you a threat to the state.
Abbott isn’t even pretending this is based on facts. He’s leaning fully into a Fox News fever dream. In his official directive, he claims CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood want to “forcibly impose Sharia law” and seize “mastership of the world.” He even cited a report from the New York Post 🙄 as evidence that CAIR is somehow funding terrorism by giving $1,000 grants to college kids who got in trouble for protesting.
It should also be noted that the New York Post cites “Network Contagion Institute,” which produces right-wing panic narratives, and does not have either academic legitimacy or terrorism research authority. Basically, it’s bullshit.
None of this is grounded in law or reality.
Greg Abbott’s stunt is anchored entirely in Islamophobic conspiracy theories that have been debunked for decades.
CAIR literally works with law enforcement. ISIS has targeted its national director because he condemned extremism. But Abbott needs a villain, and he’s decided the villain is… Muslim Texans.
He is manufacturing “radical Islamic ideology” out of thin air so he can justify state surveillance of mosques, Muslim nonprofits, and Muslim students. And he’s doing it to score political points with people whose worldview begins and ends with,
“If you aren’t a white Christian Republican, you aren’t a real Texan.”
Obey Greg Abbott’s worldview, or you’ll be rebranded an enemy.
Where did this come from? Why now?
Some very far-right extremists are claiming they’re the ones who talked Abbott into this move.
Now, if you forgot Valentina Gomez, last year she ran for Lt. Governor in some midwestern state, and got like 2% of the vote (or something like that, I don’t care enough to look it up), then like all Republican grifters, she moved to Texas, and now she’s running for Congress here.
Gomez hasn’t been short on asshole-antics since she’s been in the Lone Star state, either. She interrupted a Beto rally in Tarrant County. She went viral for shooting a dummy and said she would do that to immigrants.
Not to mention, she recently dropped a rap song so bad that it should have been classified as a hate crime.
Needless to say, if this is who Greg Abbott is now taking his political advice from, we’re all in trouble. Hopefully, after she loses the Republican primary in March, she’ll high-tail it out of Texas to grift in some other state’s politics. She’d probably do well in Florida.
I want to tell you that Valentina Gomez was just saying that for the clicks, that Greg Abbott, as awful as he is, wouldn’t take political advice from an unhinged loon like Gomez. Unfortunately, I can’t give you that reassurance.
Remember Jade Helm?
If you weren’t paying attention, or you forgot, or you weren’t even in Texas in 2015, let’s do a little recap.
Then-President Barack Obama had planned a run-of-the-mill military exercise in Texas. Well, some Russian agents in some boomer political Facebook groups had somehow convinced Texas Conservatives that Obama was planning to kidnap these kind, Christian folk, transport them in Bluebell ice cream trucks to old, shuttered Walmarts (which were now FEMA camps), and force them all to be Muslims.
It was so absurd. And to any sane, rational person, fighting with their family members on Facebook or at the dinner table on whether or not the President of the United States secretly planned to kidnap them and force them to be Muslim… you’re probably looking back on it all now, ten years later, and thinking, “Ah. Simpler times.”
But Greg Abbott believed it, too.
He didn’t pick up the phone to call the President or Conservative members of the federal government. He just said, “Whelp, must be real.” And he deployed the Texas National Guard to monitor the United States Military. At the taxpayer’s expense.
Years later, Abbott admitted Russia had fooled him. Abbott the fool.
This isn’t just about Muslims. It’s about all of us.
And here we are again, Greg Abbott targeting Muslims, sowing fear, and turning our neighbors into suspects. Only this time, he isn’t just watching the military out of paranoia… he’s pointing the gun of the state at actual Texans.
This is where everyone needs to pay attention.
When a government decides it can strip Muslims of land, rights, and dignity because of their IDEOLOGY?
That government has already decided it can strip ANYONE of land, rights, and dignity.
First, they come for Muslims. But, I did not speak out because?
Then who’s next?
Texas has 31 million people and almost 500,000 Muslim Texans. Most are in Houston and the DFW Metroplex. They are our coworkers, our classmates, the parents on the soccer sidelines, the nurses in our hospitals, the engineers building our infrastructure, the people ringing up our groceries. Some of the kindest and most morally grounded people I’ve ever known are Muslim, including friends I made right here in North Texas.
They deserve to feel safe in their own home. They deserve to be trusted, not treated like criminals. They deserve the same rights as every other Texan. Period.
So here’s what everyday people can do:
Push back against the lies. When someone repeats this garbage about “Sharia law” or “terrorism,” challenge it.
Show up. Go to mosque open houses. Attend interfaith events. Stand with Muslim-led organizations. Be physically present when our neighbors are targeted.
Build real relationships. Introduce yourself. Share meals. Ask questions. Listen.
Vote like civil rights are on the ballot. Because they are. Every single election.
Greg Abbott wants fear. He wants division. He wants to convince white Texans that someone else is the enemy, so we won’t look at the real harm he is doing.
He is terrified of communities that organize. He is terrified of Texans who unite across religion and race. He is terrified of a state where everyone belongs.
Because that’s a Texas he can’t control.

I see that CAIR has sued Abbott over this. Hopefully, others will join in suing him. I don't know how this can stand, given that his claims are totally false.
The largest oil refinery in Texas is owned by Saudi Aramco and employ thousands. If Greg is saying Muslim groups cannot own property in Texas that could be a problem.
