I shared in my Substack (https://lifeitsownself.substack.com/p/three-point-shots-wednesday-december) this morning that I hoped Jasmine did not jump into the Senate race, and for one strategic reason: Democrats will likely be in the majority in the U.S. House next year. She would be an unalloyed asset to efforts to hold Donald Trump and his band of miscreants accountable for the damage they are doing to this country, and the House leadership would be smart enough to give her that opportunity.
The Senate will likely remain in Republican hands, denying her much of a platform to challenge the prevailing lunacy. The Senate Democrats are far more reserved than their House colleagues.
From a grassroots organizer, I can tell you this. What would actually win Texas: Jasmine stays in CD 30 and works the new Tarrant Side as if she is 10 points down. Actually work her own district. It is completely packed with black voters. If she could make it a 90% turnout with 90% Dem margin, we would win the state, and send a Democrat to Washington. But in the senate she has to run state wide and won’t focus on West & South Dallas and Arlington.
Agree again with the straight talk about Jasmine Crockett. I think that if Paxton is the Republican nominee, she might squeak it out a win against him. But if it is Cornyn, she won't win. I don't even know if Talarico can beat Cornyn. Cornyn, like Abbott, is a wily old pol who could very well eke out a primary victory. The only real baggage he has is not getting the Trump stamp of approval. And, with Trump's popularity tanking, that won't be that much of a detriment for him in the general election. He has incumbency, name recognition and very deep ties to political networks ($).
On the other hand, if Democrats will run a tough, smart race demonizing and destroying the Republican brand, we might have a chance. Jasmine can certainly do that. I think Talarico can too. But, whoever it is better be ready for the Republican smears. I will never forget how they negatively defined Beto in the governor's race. He couldn't pull out of that. Don't think Cornyn wasn't taking notes.
I am on record as saying I want competitive primaries so we vet and approve the strongest possible candidates for the general. Let's drive as much turnout as we can for the primaries so we get very broad-based, diverse voter input, not just the too online activists. I include myself in that category.
When I read the part: “When I approached an influencer with this podcast clip, the immediate response I got was, “No one is going to listen to your opinion because you’re a white Democrat.”
In all fairness, the influencer, who is Hispanic, later apologized and rephrased it to explain that the Hispanic community deeply loves Bobby Pulido because of his celebrity, and that his political positions basically aren’t going to matter.“
This part of your article UPSET me so much. How RUDE! Was this influencer male or female? If it was a male. They probably care less about you being white and more about you being a female. 😡 If they were female…🥹🤦🏽♀️
This! Hispanic community deeply loves Bobby Pulido because of his celebrity, and that his political positions basically aren’t going to matter.” Also upset me because…. How ignorant they made Latinos look….
Because he is a celebrity (so was trump) his positions basically aren’t going to matter”! Well, I hope they do! I hope Mr. Pulido isn’t really like Cuellar. I also pray; Henry Cuellar doesn’t win. My friend today said “Cuellar will switch parties after he gets elected”. Please CD28 and CD15 in the Democratic Primary, vote smarter.
They need to really know how he feels about policies.
Thank you for your thoughts on Jasmine. I have had the same thoughts. She may win the primary, either outright or in a runoff, but she won't win the general. Not in today's political climate. We need her in the House. Her message and drive are deeply needed there, not only to hold seats, but to help get the majority. Talarico can win the general, and has the wits, drive, ability and presence to win. We need him there and Jasmine in the House. Together, a winning pair.
Yes to what you said. Because she deserves to run and to win does not mean she should necessarily. The negative vote likely would ultimately cause her to be left out. We need her on the national stage in the House where she is a real presence. Some of us are of the generation that fought for women's rights, but "our turn" never came for many. In Texas we are fortunate to have had Eddie Bernice Johnson and a few others.
I hear a lot of women talking on TikTok about how the "male loneliness epidemic" is evolution. Survival of the fittest. If that's true, the future will be a lot more female.
That's my favorite pie chart and I agree 💯 about Black women being the sustaining force within the Party. I think they are the keepers of this nation's soul, too.
I think this analysis is straight up truth. Having grown up in Alabama, I'm extremely familiar with the "racial dynamics" at play when a black Democrat runs for statewide office in a "racially dynamic" state.
The issue to me is if the repugs successfully gerrymanders her district out of existence, what options does Crockett have for holding office. I wonder if she's sees this scenario playing out, so she's running for the Senate potentially as her only path for getting elected. I of course have no idea what she's thinking, but I consider that thinking as a distinct possibility.

I can’t wait for April 2025! ☺️
I'm sorry that upset you. I'm also ready for the primary to be over.
I was upset you were disrespected. I was upset for you. ☺️
Meh. I've been called worse. But thank you. 💙
I wish I had that gift. 😑

I appreciate and agree with your honest and fair-minded analysis. And above all: no circular firing squad, before, during, and after the primaries.
