Kendall Scudder's mission, (he chose to accept) is to get Democrats on as many down-ballot races as he possibly can. Thank God. We need precinct chairs, county Democratic Party chairs and everyone to help him find candidates. I wish I could, but I have some real limitations. I do what I can.
And now for something completely different: Politico has a little article detailing the bad blood between Pritzger and Abbott. Apparently, Abbott's stunt of dumping people on the streets of Chicago without warning and then using Chicago as a foil for his border theater pissed Pritzger off.
I'm very impressed with how nimble Pritzger is on his feet as Trump, Abbott and Paxton try to set the narrative on the quorum busting. Unlike a lot of other Democratic responses, he always calls them out in a way that makes them look weak.
We need candidates but with this fear as well as how expensive it is to run now, even for city council. It makes it impossible. Just the basics, access to emails, text and voter information, social media, a website, signs, business cards, flyers, gas, and to only get paid $7,000 per year? You have to have an employer who is ok with it. How are you going to pay your campaign staff, by fundraising lists. The problem is we have zero infrastructure even if the blue counties, as we have talked about. So there is no turnout plan to our sold Dems. So that is the ground game we are trying to build. But even that takes money, again, for email systems, for text systems, for voter data access, for signs, slate cards for our gerrymandered districts, where you can’t just run one card or else it is a giant paper with hundreds of names on it for just one county. So that is why Dallas, Tarrant, Ellis and Johnson need to start working together.
Agreed. Also, there is the money of Wilkes and Dunn in the mix. I never really thought about it till recently, but back in the 90’s when all the local elected officials flipped over from Democrat to Republican, I suppose they just kept the existing Democratic infrastructure and repurposed it.
Democrats needed to start all over with the local offices, the staffs, candidate development, etc. As far as I can tell, its just been moribund until Kendall came along.
Yes! Dallas, Tarrant, Ellis county, etc. do need to team up. Suburban cities don’t always match interests with Dallas or Ft. Worth.
Wow! The woman from Pflugerville said what I've never heard from any democrat in office. Her talking points were clear and concise. "If you're afraid of the felon, quit..." Powerful.
They call it “rigged maps” like it’s some quirky Texas tradition, but it’s just the latest verse in the old hymn of minority rule. The Romans called it empire. The church called it orthodoxy. The Confederacy called it states’ rights. Same hymn, new choir robes.
And now they’re spicing it up with FBI cosplay and criminalizing dissent, because nothing says “land of the free” like arrest warrants for elected officials who refuse to rubber-stamp their own disenfranchisement.
If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to step in, this is it. Not when the fire’s out, but while it’s crawling up the curtains. Because democracy doesn’t survive on nostalgia and hashtags. It survives on people willing to get on the ballot, knock the doors, and scare the hell out of the folks who thought they owned the game.
I cannot express how important is that we focus on the judicial races too. They also contribute to reinforcing this trash behavior. If we dont focus on flipping judicial races such as the Texas Supreme court. We will be in a hurdle of trouble.
