As an atheist, I had to do some research and pondering about my vote, but ultimately got comfortable with Talarico and look forward to him taking on whichever slime oozes out of the R runoff. I’m not inTX-30, but am glad to hear of a strong replacement for Jasmine. I look forward to seeing her next move. We need lots of new energy to face off with the Christian Nationalists trying to reshape our nation. I think Talarico understands that threat and is in a unique position to counter it. Michelle, you are always good but here you go beyond. Throughout your piece you use the words religion and faith with some cautious mixed differentiation. Sharing my view on this in sharper focus if I may. (Centering on Christianity due to my familiarity). For me, religion is what occurs when the tenets of a faith are hijacked to form a profitable, public-facing, corporatized business plan locked into a marketing plan based on crowd control through messaging absorbed by the uncurious. Faith, by contrast, is an internal activity of believing that creates a kind of passive, trusting spiritual gravity that only the willing drift toward and embrace and is evidenced by outward behaviors manifested as silent invitations. Thanks for reading.

I keep coming across commentary that suggests those who chose Talarico over Crocket are misogynists and racists. See Civic Sage. I find this to be a narrow perspective. I am a person of deep faith. Talarico's politics are informed by his faith. That is something I can relate to. Talarico appealed heavily to the hispanic voters in south Texas, voters who have been bludgeoned by the Trump regime. Those voters turned out for Talarico who spent funds and time cultivating them. This made the difference.

I think that particular influencer is having some type of breakdown. Because none of her rants are based on rational thought. I hope we get through this part soon.

Michelle, You missed one classification in your list of "other people’s religion, whether they’re Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Atheist, or Spaghetti Monster." Agnostic belongs in the list. Not an unbeliever but one who requires demonstrable proof, as do most scientists.
