Michelle, I subscribe to a lot of Substacks, but none of them compare to yours. You can never leave us!

Women like Alexandra are such a blemish on the rest of us. It’s not fucking cute to misspell your own name (and it’s not “technical”) either. And what kind of chicken-fried idiot doubles-down and reposts their own stupidity? Texas GOP women, that’s who.

This is such a great article full of information that I feel, EVERY Democratic leaning person should read. Just for knowledge sake. I share your great articles like this with so many of my friends. Then when I talk about the article, I feel, then didn’t take the time to read it! 😫. I definitely feel that we would be better off with more Jasmine Crockett’s, James Talarico’s, and a few others you mentioned! Got to go…. I’m sitting at a polling site… 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 for a win!

I love Lina, but I don't think she wants higher office. I agree Talarico would be awesome as a Senator, but I would prefer to hear Governor Talarico first.

Every week I think, surely the spell of stupid has reached its limit. And every week Texas Republicans rise like a hydra of hubris and illiteracy. You would think at the very least one could spell their own sacred name-sigil correctly when petitioning the gods of campaign cash, but alas.

Meanwhile, back at the MAGA dark altar, we see red rape offered as a Freudian sacrifice to the grammar gods, Judge O'Hare flaunting white grievance as a virtue, and Ogg trying to monetize a child's death for media clicks. This is Texas politics, where the cruelty is the point and the copy editing is outsourced.

But here is the deeper spell they fear: relentless naming of their tactics, public ridicule that unmasks their game, and voters who show up anyway. Keep the lamp lit, dear scribe. We are not done yet.

The DNC absolutely sees us as a donor state. They also see that stars like Talarico galvanize small donors in other states. I was having a conversation with a nice person in the Northwest on Sez Us. She sent me a video link (I had already seen)and kept gushing on about Talarico, which is fine. But then she began explaining to me what he was all about. I finally had to gently remind her, I'm a Texas Democrat. I am quite familiar with Talarico. I agree, I would much rather see him run for statewide office here. I hope the DNC is not telling him he couldn't win in a statewide race here. I think the DNC has a conflict of interest. They seem much more interested in harvesting small donor donations than winning elections and/or fielding opposition party candidates whose adversarial positions can help moderate Republican extremism.

I wonder how useful the DNC would even find trying to flip Texas. Isn't it more useful to their small-donor fund raising to triangulate off those horrible Texas Republicans? I believe the result of national Democrats' outrage about Texas has resulted in our further isolation and most Blue state Democrats being convinced every single woman, man and child in this state is so completely irredeemable there is no point trying to flip this state. Which is so patently ridiculous! If they are thinking about the presidency, why would they not try to grab up 40 electoral college votes! Republicans probably snicker about that political malpractice every day.

I also was furious that after Beto's close loss to Cruz, national Democrats just wanted him to turn over his war chest to them instead of building on what he accomplished here. The implication was Texas isn't worth it to them, but they'll sure take our money.

Talarico, like Beto and Crockett, is quite fluent in the language of everyday people. They all hit on the underlying immorality of Republicans and their terrible policies. Texans will respond to that. Texans also love it when their politicians are authentically Texan. The DNC has a real tendency to engineer a candidate in DC for a red state that screams 'outsider'.

PS - I just got an email that the No Kings protest I signed up for in Euless has hit a hundred registrants. I hope that's because redistricting is hitting a nerve in Tarrant County.

Absolutely, but you know the rumor has been since 2020, that the DNC refused to invest in Texas until Hinojosa was gone. I don’t know if that was true or just a rumor, but he’s gone now, so maybe Kendall Scudder will finally turn this state around. I’m hopeful,

Thanks for yet another informative article. Hope Rep. Talarico runs for Governor of Texas next year. Beto should run for US Senate against Cornyn. After all, Nixon lost to JFK but won the election for President eight years later. Beto came quite close to defeating Cruz and lost by less than three points if I remember correctly.

I truly feel that Texas would be in a different place if Beto had not run for President. Not Blue, but at least a darker purple. More like Michigan or Nevada. Talarico needs to stay in Texas. It's a benefit to us and the nation. The more Talarico's we have, the more we can energize others to run for office too.

Yeah, absolutely. Beto’s 2020 run for president instead of Cornyn’s seat was a huge mistake.
