That was a lot of mathing. It really is on us which is one reason I am not vacationing this summer. It has also been puzzling to me why more attention has not been paid to the Governor race. Could it have anything to do with the Democratic candidate being female????

I just think fewer people pay attention to state politics.

I am going to have to sound that out. I know you have been looking at it for some time. I have tended to think Texans are more territorial but I have not thought about it.

Thank you, Michelle. Kinda sobering, but the kick in the pants we need. Just shared to bsky.

I am curious. Why is there a difference in fundrasing between Talarico and Gina? Arent people identifying the two as crucial? I am struggling to understand how the surge and popularity around Talarico is not translating well for Hinojosa chances it concerns me a lot

I’ve talked about this a lot before. In Texas, for some reason, Democrats pay a lot of attention to what’s happening in DC, not so much at home. 😭

Talarico is raising a lot of money from outside Texas, plus big donors in Texas. Hinojosa doesn’t have that star power. Talarico was hitting most of the state in 2024, being a great surrogate. I was pretty new in 2024 and I had several meetings with him, more than the actual house rep in my district. Hinojosa still isn’t well know across the state and if she is, in democratic circles carries some baggage from her father (our former TDP party chair who had to suddenly resign after very poor choices of words after the horrific losses in Texas). But that is why I say give to down ballot candidates always.

Thats very frustrating to hear because what happens at home also affects D.C like its insane how this isnt translating to support for Hinojosa and it explains why the polling is not friendly for her. Why happens with the texas supreme court, governor and state house is a contributing factor to whats going on. I am really disappointed with this and i dont see any point of Talarico winning if we cant translate his strength downballot. All those local, statewide races are also responsible for helping the coalition that elects him to D.C

A frustration I've shared for years.

This is the article I’ve wanted to read.

Great work!

It remains to be seen whether Talarico’s momentum will translate down ballot. I think it will give Gina the acceleration she needs. There’s something else that’s happening, Gina is pounding the pavement, speaking to everybody, and meeting people across the state. She’s understated and also underestimated in what will be a low-turnout for republicans midterm.

She is doing the work. I think her appearances in South Texas or The Valley will help other candidates and voters elsewhere will like what she says.
