You left this out of your poll: “I know my precinct and we have a chair.” My precinct chair is AWESOME. We are blue dots in a red area & she has made us a cohesive and active group. Small and mighty.
Thank you so much for this article. You might have heard me say before that I needed help with this and TDP has helped a lot! Our County has 268 today and will add 17+ to that list on 10/14/25. The next CEC meeting. If I manage to get 20 more this year, our committee just might have made the Goal to get 300 this year. I could not have done it without all the help I finally got from several sources. We are making sure all these precinct chairs are filing for the next term. So come June of 2026! We will be ready to GOTV at a rate of 65% or more. Which is another goal we have for the midterms. I sat this term out of being a precinct chair because I was worried it would be too much to be a committee co chair and be a precinct chair. Regretted it and have filed for the next term already. My precinct does have a chair but she wants to use her time for Breast Cancer awareness. Which is also needed in today’s world. I guess I should again thank everyone who helped me recruit and train precinct chairs since 2021-present. The volunteers at HQs, the committee, my co chair, TDP (Katy S) and of course Michelle Davis. ☺️
We still have too many consultants in TX who just want $ and are terrible. We need to clean them out. They pick terrible candidates who won’t win or run white candidates against black candidates in blue seats or won’t help rural candidates because those races aren’t going give them a win. And they do want to build. So that is why I call our new amazing chair, the Principal of Nevermore Consultants. Never any more of them! They don’t care about turning blue they just want $.
Liz is right ..consultants VAN one of them got rich off Kamala and a slew of other candidatest........TDP gave Bill DeBlasio $500k ...for what i dunno
VAN, which a poster below acknowledge using , is owned by a UK hedge fund....do u think they are giving away a single email. i suspect she pays for their email list out-of-pocket.TCDP spent $2000 on VAN, not the enough for one pct chair one time
ACT BLUE CEO made $950,000
u do the work, they get the money
its not that DNC has to use VAN or ACT BLUE. They chose to. Rather people who orbit in and around the top echelons of DC Dems persuaded them to privatize a wholly public function...that is providing contact info for candidat
Each party whether Dem or Republican has a data system. But it differs by state. I know nothing of Republican infrastructure but what I have heard is they are much more coordinated from top to bottom and across states and if you wonder why FB sold the data to Cambridge Analytica it was because they had lots and lots of Republican $$ and all that data went into the Republicans data. Ours is a mess. Republicans have been building a ground game from the bottom for 30 years. Us? All on our own. But, Tim, can you please spell Kendall’s name correctly and give him a chance? Or are you just trying to be a dick. Cause that is how you have been treating Allison who is really doing great things. We can’t fix this all in the 9 months since Kendall got elected or the 4 since Allison did. Maybe start calling voters and help clean it up.
Oh so this is what twitter felt like in the OG? Yeah, my fight is with Republicans. We got a lot of them in Tarrant. Why don’t you work on Tim O’Hare instead of the ones trying to do the actual work.
VAN is our data base of voters, names, addresses, voting records, etc.
VAN sells the list and other services to parties, like ur county party , or candidates....
It isn't cheap and they don't have a price list..we would need a pct chair who uses it to tells how much.
to be in contact and effective with their constituents a pct chair would need to 'contact' 2000,3000,4000 people in their district.........more than once...
i am thinking serveral thousand dollars , maybe more, too much for most pct chair....
so how else do u talk to 2000 neighbors...u go block walking....again a tall order for a working parent
Yes, about 3,400 and change, but I’m not sure how accurate that is as it’s up to each county to report updates to the SoS and I don’t know if they all do them in a timely manner. Plus the SoS has got new software and some of their updates have been slow. Regardless, Dem precinct chairs are up, Republican ones are down.
Sorry i forgot i got a reply from Steven Weintrub a while back. He gave me the actual numbers but he couldnt post it as he cant subscribe to your substack to comment. He told me its approximately about 3,467 chairs in about 9712 Precinct. About 126 counties do not have a democratic precient chairs
Yes we are slowly increasing in Dallas County. None of the ones in my area were accurate on the SOS. Eons ago. Are you saying County Elections Dept or County Democratic Party is responsible. to update precinct chairs? Hoping to meet our new Dallas County Elections Admin soon as I have a task for him. 😁 Yes that new software is a bear apparently.
NGP VAN, Inc. is an American privately owned voter database and web hosting service provider used by the Democratic Party, Democratic campaigns, and other non-profit organizations authorized by the Democratic Party. The platform or service is used by political and social campaigns for fundraising, campaign finance compliance, field organizing, and digital organizing. NGP VAN, Inc. was formerly known as Voter Activation Network, Inc. and changed its name to NGP VAN, Inc. in January 2011. The company was founded in 2001 and is based in Washington, D.C.
In 2009, the company was the largest partisan provider of campaign compliance software, used by most Democratic members of Congress.[5] The company's services have been utilized by clients such as the Obama 2008 presidential campaign, the Obama 2012 presidential campaign,[6] the Hillary Rodham Clinton 2016 presidential campaign, the Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign, the British Liberal Democrats,[7] and the Liberal Party of Canada.
The company was acquired by London-based private equity firm Apax Partners in 2021 and conducted layoffs in 2023.[8]
couldn't find pricing info on VAN but this article summarizes somewhat with the headline
"At the moment, Democratic state parties may have an incentive to maintain VAN’s monopoly, since they set the rules for access. Many charge campaigns a pretty penny for the privilege. "
can't tell from this whether the parties charge campaigns or VAN does
the other thing said here:"Behind the troubles? Perhaps one factor is that NGP VAN is a private company, not a non-profit like ActBlue, and it’s no longer run by people who are part of the Democratic movement."
so is the school teacher with kids at home pct. chair supposed to spend .............one, two, three thousand dollars on a list of her constituents? even a mailer costs a dollar
and as I said Tarrant County Democratic Party has 350,000 Dems and spent $2000 on VAN.....u tell me how many voters got contacted with that little money. They have 200 pct's with chairs so each chair gets $10 worth of VAN.
VAN pricing-you know what this means: - "No public price list: The company's business model involves custom quotes rather than public, tiered pricing, which is common for specialized, enterprise-level political software"
Tarrant County gives u no email lists or money...they do ask u go out there and communicate with the 2000, 3000, 4000 constituents in ur pct and invite them to ur house for a meetup or keep in touch via whatever SM platform ur familiar with
u can go door to door....take about are year ....or u can buy an email list.......$40/1000 on the cheap
what they really want u to do is buy ,or lease VAN, at a large expense to u and of great benefit of the hedge fund that owns VAN
have u lost ur mind mind MD?
my county AND Kendoll make the same pitch becasue they are furkempt as all get our and have no ability to reach voters
You, Dear Pct Chairs, do the work, get no support from ur County or TDP ..spend ur money, and pray to baby Jesus
Or realize Dem leadership is clueless and getting worse
I am a Denton County precinct chair. Each of us is given access to the contact info of our precinct in VAN. If your county is not giving VAN access to their pcs then there is something wrong. In Denton County the party and pcs are one team to reach our voters but we need more! Thank you MD for this vitally important article.

What is VAN?

Ok Konsultant Ken, selected by the people the SDEC, a man of a few people
who, just so happens, as his first big project, is to move HQ to the place where his consultancy operates.
About Allison i have told my thoughts to MD...check with her.
Oh so this is what twitter felt like in the OG? Yeah, my fight is with Republicans. We got a lot of them in Tarrant. Why don’t you work on Tim O’Hare instead of the ones trying to do the actual work.

pct chairs and VAN is a scheme to enrich some more some very rich owners of VAN
nobody , no county chair or Kendoll will give u a dime to help u contact the 2000,3000 or 4000 constituents in ur pct
ur on ur own...time and $$
they may likey steer u to VAN..see above
i would surmise Dallas Real Estate Consultant Kendoll wants ur to gather email addresses to give to TDP who will sell it to VAN
no email address changes hands without $$$
Out of curiosity do we know the numbers of how many precient chairs we have in Texas?
Yes, about 3,400 and change, but I’m not sure how accurate that is as it’s up to each county to report updates to the SoS and I don’t know if they all do them in a timely manner. Thank you as usual! You are one of god’s strongest soldiers 😂.
No, but here is the most recent list. I do know that only 2% of the 6 million Biden voters contribute to the Texas Democratic party. https://emr.sos.texas.gov/cpc-filings/cpc-contact-report.aspx
Sorry. That is what I got from SOS but it looks old.
In addition Kendall is hopeful to get everyon to give $10 per month to the party, in part to develop precincts and GOTV.
Truer words were never spoken.
if they steer u towards VAN , here is the lowdown
from wiki biz

Yes my understanding is that precinct chairs are give free access but candidates used to (prolly still do) pay for the original info.
