Taylor Rehmet, Senator Roland Gutierrez, And Heli Rodriguez Prilliman In Ft Worth
Flipping SD09 with a people-powered, working-class campaign.
In northwest Tarrant County, a special election is underway alongside the Constitutional elections. This race is for a State Senate seat in a chamber where Republicans hold a supermajority, but this one can flip. Texas Senate District 09 is poised to turn blue, and voter turnout will decide the outcome. Taylor Rehmet, the only Democrat in the race, has the chance to make it happen.
Today, Rehmet held a rally in Fort Worth with Senator Roland Gutierrez (D–SD19) and Heli Rodriguez Prillman, candidate for Texas Congressional District 12. The videos below are from the rally (shot on my iPhone).

This is a special election. That means low turnout, short timelines, and high stakes. And the far-right is already treating this race as their comeback attempt.

Senator Roland Gutierrez:
Gutierrez made the case for Taylor’s candidacy in the upcoming November 4th special election. He praised Taylor’s working-class roots as a B-52 mechanic and union steward, saying his life reflects a commitment to everyday families through sacrifice and service.
Speaking with Gutierrez today, he was clear. SD09 can be flipped. And with Democrats sweeping special elections across the country, the biggest task before November is ensuring Democratic voters in SD09 turn out.
Heli Rodriguez Prilliman:
Rodriguez Prilliman will be running for Texas Congressional District 12 (TX12) next year, joining Kenneth Morgan-Aguilera on the Democratic primary ballot.

Perla Bojorquez, previous HD93 candidate and current LULAC District 21 Director of Women, was also present and announced she is strongly considering a run for Tarrant County Commissioner’s Court, challenging Manny Ramirez.
These Democrats really have it figured out.
What stood out at this rally was how they were all talking to the people who actually make Texas run. Working people. Lower healthcare costs. Fully fund public schools. Real wages for real jobs. Trade programs without debt traps. That’s the agenda.
Texans aren’t drowning because we forgot to “pull ourselves up.” We’re drowning because Republicans keep shoveling public money to billionaires and calling it “economic development,” then telling the rest of us to be grateful for coupons at the checkout line.
“Corporate tax breaks? Approved. Private school vouchers? Fast-tracked. Grocery prices, rent, prescription drugs? That’s your problem, peasant.” - Texas Republicans (basically)
Every one of these Democrats made it clear they’re here to flip that script.
This is what representation for the 99% looks like. If Texas is ever going to live up to its bragging rights, it won’t be because another billionaire got a tax abatement. It’ll be because the 99% took their state back from the oligarchs who bought it.

Taylor is the exactly the kind of candidate we need and this election will be like a municipal. Do not listen to the consultants. You can get thousands of voters to come out for this election if you just talk to them. That means when you are in Tarrant County or NW Dallas County, you are very likely to be next to a SD 9 voter. Strike up a conversation! This is a vote that has a huge national impact. Do you want to be a part of it? Every where I go, I talk about 3 things: Irving, Arlington, Ellis County. It is a mantra. I can’t vote for Taylor but I make sure and talk to all of everyone about him.
Michelle. I am a candidate that is trying to run for an state legislature seat but i find myself plagued with fears as i have never attempted to run for office. What advice would you give to younger folks who are feeling down or having self doubt despite having the capability? The campaign i want to try to will be grassroots but this is a area that has been disinvested for about 10 years.
