Oh god. This article is hopium at its finest but i am not using it as a negative connotation. This is definitely something the precient chairs and volunteers need to see but it feels so frustrating to do the heavy lifting for an expensive state. And ironically enough the DNC is also broke. Voter registration for democrats have been slipping pretty rapidly.
From your lips to Gods ears. 🙏🏼. I’m praying that those areas find a motivated person to do something! I’m praying that those areas read this so that maybe we can flip those that need to be flipped. I am working hard to find precinct chairs for HD118 and HD121. I met a person, that walked into the HQs that said he was interested in running for something. He lives in HD122, and said he would look into it but he doesn’t know much about politics and how it works. He was wearing sunglasses and said his eyesight wasn’t good. Yet he was in his 30s. He wrote notes as our Manager then I spoke to him. We will see if he gets a treasurer but I want a stronger candidate for that area. 🙏🏼 🙏🏼
This is the kind of map-reading that actually matters. Folks get hypnotized by the presidential circus while the state house sneaks off with your schools, your water, your wages, your libraries. Flip 14 seats and suddenly Abbott’s agenda looks a lot less inevitable. Texas doesn’t need a miracle. It needs candidates with a spine and neighbors willing to knock doors until their knuckles bruise.
Having watched Todd Hunter in the redistricting House general meeting and hearings, I'm convinced the devil's got a mortgage on his soul. Nothing would make me happier than to see him de-throned!
Maybe more Democrats would come forward if there was a war chest or PAC that candidates could draw from. For the regular working person who gets 2 weeks vacation per year it's a daunting task.
I know. It’s hard. There are PACs out there that do help, especially for rural candidates. But until we flip the House, we can’t change how things are set up. Once we flip it, we need to make it more accessible for working people.
To follow up on my previous comment, hope you will write a similar article about the flippable Senate seats in Texas legislature.
I shared this article with the founder of a South Asian American organization, which is focused on Voter Empowerment of this group in Texas. I urged her to initiate conversations through text banking with South Asian Americans in these flippable districts including voter registration. Her response was encouraging. She appreciated the useful data in your article and is looking into it.
Perhaps you can encourage other groups to do the same.
Yes, I actually had a bunch more on my list including those, but it was late and the article was getting long. And I was just trying to make a point about 14 😁
Also, re HD 112, I think it’s the district where “competitive state house district” and “Democratic-held congressional district dismantled by your Republican state house member” most overlap, and I wonder if we can leverage that to turn out more people who don’t usually vote in midterms, but voted against Trump & for Rep. Johnson last autumn.
Something I’ve noticed looking at the 2024 election data is that Villalobos did better than any other Republican in HD34, despite being as much of a crackpot or more of one. I wonder why that was, and what we can learn from it… https://wrm.capitol.texas.gov/fyiwebdocs/PDF/house/dist34/r8.pdf
When I lived in Austin, I never found out a damned thing that was happening in the legislature from the Austin American Statesman. When I lived in Dallas, the only thing I ever got from the Dallas Morning News was negative news about South Dallas, and breathless coverage of the dumbest municipal plan ever to build a massive road and park in the flood zone of the Trinity River. There is decent media in Texas for state and local news; Texas Observer, the Texas Tribune, Community newspapers, PBS affiliates, and Texas Monthly. And of course, Lone Star Left.

As a precinct chair, I agree. And I would ask if you are in touch w your precinct chair and actively volunteering to the extent you can?
It's going to take all of us to turn this ship around. Money would sure help.

Thank you Thank you !!!!! Iamspreading this Near and Far!!! Thank you for continuing to educating us so we can educate others !!!
Thanks again for a very insightful article. Hope our leaders in TDP are paying attention to your articles and investing resources to flip these seats.
I also think HD 133 & HD 138, as well as HD 52 and *maybe* HD 37, should be in the conversation, especially for a potential wave year!

Yes, and someone just contacted me this morning that we’ll have a candidate announcement for 112 by next week.
Amazing!

It’s a right leaning publication that mostly focuses on local issues, not only politics. Why should I?
“why don’t you give your money to the same corporate media that was happy to deliver us to fascism?”
