Reader Poll: Your Voice Matters
As we head into a pivotal election year, I want your input.
The holidays always turn me into a reflective mess, and this week I have extra excuses. Tomorrow’s my birthday (if you’ve been thinking about becoming a paid subscriber, today is an excellent day to make me feel special).
And next semester, I’ll finish my English degree, which means I’ll officially have TWO Liberal Arts degrees, History and English. I like to joke that’ll make me a Super Liberal.
People keep asking what I’m planning to do next. Don’t worry, I’ll only have more time to pour into Lone Star Left. And there are plenty of deep dives and rabbit holes left to climb down.
Also, next year I’ll be publishing a novel. A historical fiction based on a real incident in Texas history. I don’t want to tell you too much yet, but stay tuned for that announcement in the first part of 2026.
So, yes, I’m reflective. It’s that time of year. I’m getting older, closing out another chapter, and somehow gearing up for the next one. But I’m also thinking ahead, because 2026 might actually be the year we flip the Texas House. Call me bananas, but with fourteen seats to go, I honestly think we can pull it off next year.
Every December, before a legislative session, advocacy groups drop their legislative priorities for the upcoming session. I always mean to publish mine, but after Democrats lose in November, by the time January rolls around, I’m like, “meh.” But 2026 should be different. If we’re serious about flipping seats and governing, then we should spend next year talking about what we want our Legislature to do once the gavel drops in 2027.
And yes, the Left in Texas podcast is coming back from January through the primary. More on that soon.
For now, I want to hear from you. What do you want to see more of on Lone Star Left? What keeps you coming back? What do you wish I covered more of? Or less?
So let’s do a reader poll. These answers will help me develop my content plans for 2026.
Content and priorities.
Meet The Candidates: Cameron Rollwitz For Texas Senate District 11
Meet The Candidates: Robert Mihara For Texas House District 117
Podcast.
New ideas.
Who are you?
As we head into a new year, I want Lone Star Left to grow with you.
Your voice and your feedback shape what I cover, what I dig into, and what I amplify. So take a minute to vote in the polls, drop a comment, and let me know what you want to see more of in 2026.
Thanks for being here. Thanks for reading. And thanks for fighting for a better Texas with me. Let’s make this next chapter count.

It's more my time I was concerned about. I subscribe to too many Substacks, and many are adding audio and video. I feel like I had more time on my hands before retiring. BTW congrats on the degree and the book!
Happy Birthday and Congratulations on your 2nd degree! Super Liberal!!
I love your Substack and I want to be involved as much as I can be. Part of the reason I love what you write is I constantly learn and feel incrementally more confident in understanding the issues and Texas politics in general. So thank you for all of that!
And I can't wait to read your novel! 👏🏼👏🏼
